Frank Michael Meyer, 72, died in his sleep on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at White Oak Manor in Charlotte. Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 12, 1939, he was the only son of the late Frank E. Meyer and Florence S. Meyer. Frank grew up outside of Chicago in Glenview, Illinois and was married to Karen S. Meyer on Feb. 3, 1962. After living in Northbrook, Illinois for several years, they moved to Delray Beach, Florida for a time. Frank and his family moved to Charlotte, NC in 1973 to work for JA Jones Construction Company as an Electrical Estimator. During the 20+ years that he worked at JA Jones, Frank was able to travel the world for projects in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. After retiring, Frank began volunteering at Union Academy Charter School in Monroe, NC where his grandchildren attended. This led him to a second career working with their information systems. He loved his years at Union Academy, and worked until his stroke in June 2011. He was a loving husband and father who was a king at building or fixing almost anything and always kept a bag of tools handy 'just in case. His love for golden retrievers was shared by his wife Karen. They had given homes to over 14 different goldens with as many as four at one time. His current dogs, Sam, Cody and Honey will miss him but we know the others have already greeted him in heaven. Frank is in a place with no suffering with his beloved dogs by his side. He is survived by his wife, Karen S. Meyer; their children, Bill Meyer and his wife, Catherine, of Wesley Chapel, Laura Davidson and her husband, Terry, of Monroe and John Michael Meyer of Charlotte and his fiancé Donna Lewis of Stallings; his sisters, Carol Wenk (Richard), and Nancy Meyer of Hilton Head, SC; and by his wonderful grandchildren, Casey and Carson Meyer, and Sarah and Mark Davidson. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 4:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will visit with friends and relatives following the memorial service.
