Frank was born on July 9, 1931 to Bernie and Bettie Walling in Antlers Oklahoma. He was the youngest of 9 children. When he was six, the family moved to southern California where he lived until adulthood. In 1951 Frank joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Rochester during the Korean war. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. He met and married Cheryl on March 19, 1977 in Sacramento, CA. They later moved to Oregon and then to North Carolina where they spent their remaining years together. He loved history and delighted in taking visiting relatives to nearby historical sites. Frank enjoyed sports of all kinds and umpired softball and refereed basketball for a number of years. He also loved raising flowers and caring for the many birds on their property. He especially loved his dachshund, Bubba, who he took with him everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl; son Alan (Marla) of Portland, OR; son Dan (Pauline) of Sacramento, CA; daughter CharLynn of Portland; stepsons Mike (Lynn) Dooney and Chris (Jurhee) Walling, both of Waxhaw, NC; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous other family members.
