Fred A Parker passed away peacefully on June 28th while on vacation at the beach, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on July 20, 1928 in Rocky Mount, NC. He attended Rocky Mount High School and married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Mitchell. He served in the US Navy near the end of World War II and returned home to enroll at North Carolina State College. After college Fred started his career in the Trust Department of Planters Bank. He later entered the Savings Loan Industry and eventually served as President of Heritage SL in Monroe, NC before retiring in 1989. Fred served in many civic organizations throughout his life including the Union County School Board, Rotary Club. He also served as President of the NC Savings Loan League and as a member of The Federal Home Loan Bank Board. Fred was also Chairman of the Board of Hound Ears Club. Fred was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed many years in the choir. He played Drums and Trombone in a Band before joining the Navy and loved music. Marjorie and Fred enjoyed their many friendships and were most happy attending parties and gatherings. They loved to dance and never missed a chance to get on the dance floor. The patriarch of his family, Fred was an avid golfer and sports fan. He was a member at Rolling Hills CC, Hound Ears Club, HASOBs and Celador Club. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Marjorie Mitchell Parker; son, Chuck Parker and wife Betty of Raleigh; daughters, Pam Tucker and husband Ed of Charlotte and Anna Parker and Suzanne Mattox of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Hank Spencer and wife Katie, Holt Hanlon and husband Aidan, John Parker and wife Meredith, Catherine Parker and fiancé Lee Browne and four and 8/9s great-grandchildren. Fred was a devoted husband and father and was guided by his strong Christian faith and personal integrity. He was always available for anyone in his family as well as friends and neighbors and would take the time to help or mentor in whatever capacity he could. He could always be counted on to offer his time and talents. “Well done, good and faithful servant! ” Matthew 25:21 The family will visit with friends and relatives Tuesday, July 3, 2018 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.
