George Arthur Lewis

George Arthur Lewis, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Montgomery County, NC April 5, 1928, son of the late George H. & Bessie Eury Lewis. He is also preceded in death by a son, George Jefferson Lewis, a brother Wilburn Lewis, four sisters; Mary Lee Blanchard, Peggy Riggins, Frances Griffin, and Maggie Mae Miles. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. George was a charter member at Oakland Baptist Church, he retired from Beneficial Insurance Company after 21 years of service, after retiring he worked for many years part time at Victory Shoe Repair in Monroe. He was also a Mason. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lillian Melton Lewis, son Lynn Lewis, (Penny) and daughter Sabra Hance, (Gary) eight grandchildren; Rodney Gordon, (Ramona), Eric Hance, (Anna), Greg Gordon, Andrew Rushing, Crissy Hance, Josh Rushing, (Ashley), Lynsey Lewis, and Dillon Lewis, thirteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
