George R. McWhorter, 88, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013. He was born in Union County on December 19, 1924, son of the late George W. and Millie Starnes McWhorter. Mr. McWhorter was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Holshouser McWhorter, brothers Allen Wilson McWhorter, W. Roy McWhorter, sisters, Mildred Starnes and Loerne Starnes . Mr. McWhorter is survived by sisters, Violet Starnes and Betty Medlin of Monroe. Funeral services will be held Monday October 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 10:00 until 10:45 AM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
