George Larry Tyson, 83, of Monroe, NC passed away after an extended illness. He was born on July 21, 1942, in Union County, NC, the son of the late George W. & Jessie Crook Tyson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

He shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Virginia “Rickie” Moore Tyson. Together, they raised two loving daughters, Anita Whittle (Tom) from Lincoln, Nebraska and Amy Hill from Monroe, NC. He was the proud Pawpaw to Rebekah June (Olivia), Joseph Whittle, Rachel Lau (Jia), John Whittle (Sarah), and Zach Hill. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Kenneth Tyson (Peggy), whom he loved dearly.

Larry was a faithful lifetime member and elder of Stephenson Presbyterian Church. He was the owner of Monroe Contractors Electrical Supply. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren teaching them how to work as well as play. His favorite pastimes were golfing and lawn work at home as well as for neighbors.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all their friends that visited, provided meals, and laughter during Larry’s illness.
