Gerald Brooksher Morris

Gerald Brooksher Morris, 87 of Marshville, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024. He was born in Stanly County, NC, on September 6, 1937, son of the late Johnnie Brooksher and Lucille Morgan Morris. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Janice Smith Morris, and infant brother, Tommy Keith Morris.


Gerald was a larger-than-life, humble man who loved his country, family, community, and the Carolina Tarheels. A decorated Navy Seaman of the USS Coolbaugh, he received a letter of commendation for his bravery in saving the life of a fellow seaman, who fell overboard in San Juan, Puerto Rico.


A faithful employee of ATI Teledyne Allvac for over 40 years. Gerald also served as Booster Club President at PHS and Assistant Softball Coach. After retirement, you could find him at a ballgame, or working with the Christian Cooking Convoy, serving on the board of New Salem VFD, or cooking Pizza and making coffee at Polk Mountain Market each and every morning. Gerald loved his church and his Savior Jesus Christ. He showed his love by giving and assisting others unconditionally. He was a lifelong member and servant of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and greeter. He was an active member of the American Legion and Fire Dept.


A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103.


Gerald is survived by his three daughters, Debra Sue Morris (Alex) of Mooresville, Cindy Morris Barnes (Steve), of Indian Trail, and Lisa Morris Baucom (Scott), of Marshville; grandchildren, Keith Barnes (Teri), of Wilmington, Lance Barnes of Indian Trail, Casey Gibson (Zane) of Winston-Salem, Davey Baucom of Monroe, Liam Elliott-Morris and Evan Elliott-Morris both of Mooresville; great-granddaughters, Jeanie Gibson and Lydia Barnes; great-grandson Randy Gibson, sister Peggy Dennis (late husband James), many nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests, New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103, or American Legion, 6521 NC-218, Marshville, NC 28103.
