Gertrude McCain Griffin, 71, of Monroe went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 28, 2007. She was born on September 28, 1935 in Monroe NC. She was the daughter of the late William Raeford and Lillie Broome McCain. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Wayne Griffin and daughter Marsha Griffin Walters. Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. She is survived by her son Randy W. Griffin and spouse Danette, son-n-law Wayne Walters, grandchildren April Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Josh Griffin, Brandon Griffin, and Mackenzie Griffin. She had three loving sisters, Rachel Keziah and spouse Bernard, Nancy McLean and spouse Earl, Helen Griffin and spouse David, one brother William Raeford McCain, Jr. Gertrude was retired from Oro Mfg. where she worked as a shipping and receiving clerk. She was a lifelong member of Lee Park Presbyterian Church where she served as a Children’s Sunday School Teacher. Gertrude, known by her grandchildren as Maw Maw Tudy, loved spending time gardening, playing with her sheltie “Lady” but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She made every Sunday afternoon special to see what special dessert she had made for them. She instilled so many wonderful memories for the grandchildren especially the holidays throughout the year and playing baseball or kickball in her backyard. While a resident at Monroe Square Assisted Living for the past six years, she enjoyed her weekly Bible class spending time with her new friends there and most of all playing Bingo to win a prize for her “Little Princess” Mackenzie. Gertrude and the family have been blessed for her to have has such a wonderful roommate, Shirley Ruiz. The family is grateful for the staff at Monroe Square for taking such wonderful care and loving her the way as they did. They family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, July 30, 2007 at Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Ave. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2007 2:00 PM at Roanoke Baptist Church. The Rev. Kenneth McMullen, Rev. Gene Penegar, and Rev. Kenny Pittman will be officiating the service, with burial following at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monroe Square Assisted Living Activities Center at 918 Fitzgerald Street, Monroe, NC 28110.
