Gladys Pope Hilton

Gladys Pope Hilton, 96, passed away October 2, 2012. She was born in Union County on September 10, 1916, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Rebecca Jane Lowery Pope. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Hilton and grandchildren, Jordon Price and Kisha Greene Tarlton. One of Ms. Hilton's hobbies was making dolls of several varieties--ceramic, porcelain and knit. In her earlier years, she worked at the Children's Polio Hospital in Monroe. She was retired from Celanese Corporation. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM in New Salem Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Ms. Hilton is survived by her daughter, Josephine H. Secrest of Monroe; grandchildren, Robin and Stuart Greene, Pam Secrest, Terica and Bill McCain, Tim and Wendy Secrest and Lisa and Max Hatley; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
