Gladys Griffin Nash, 93, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She was born May 22, 1932, the daughter of J. Floyd and Iris Griffin. She spent her entire life in the Monroe community, of which she loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, her cherished husband, William Hoyte Nash and beloved sisters, Marie Whitley and Lavaughn Boswell.
Gladys graduated from high school and dedicated her life to being a homemaker. She was married to William for 74 years; together, they built a strong foundation anchored in their family, church, and community—one that continues to shape and bless the generations that follow.
She is survived by her children: Kathy Trull (Wilson), Randy Nash (Renee), and William Gregory Nash; 5 grandchildren: Patrick Trull (Amber), Alison Alvarez (Richard), Kristen Millar (Chris), Ryan Nash, and Maegan Moore (Brian); and 12 great-grandchildren: Lily Grace, Landon, and Lucas Trull; Alivia, Kaitlyn, and Greyson Alvarez; Eva, Sam, and Red Nash; and Piper, Amelia, and Beau Moore. She was also blessed with other family members including her sister, Pat Rape, and many special nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
She was a great cook and was especially known for her famous biscuits and chicken and dumplings. Anyone that ever ate her chocolate meringue pie always wanted her recipe. These recipes were renowned and often requested, both for special holidays and the occasional grandkid sick day. Family camping trips to the beach and mountains always brought great adventures. She delighted in golf-cart rides with her family around the farm. Having a green thumb, she found joy in growing beautiful flowers. A talented pianist, she played for family sing-alongs during the holidays, filling the room with warmth and laughter. Gladys was a strong woman, as well, courageously overcoming many health challenges throughout her life. Above all, she loved her family, who were her heart. Gladys had many talents; a gifted seamstress, home decorator, and church pianist, often filling her church and home with the sweet sounds of gospel hymns.
Although she has physically departed this world, her legacy will continue to live on in the memories she created and the love she felt for those around her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers Janice Aycoth, Tina Fisher, the entire staff of Avendelle, and her nursing and support staff with VIA Health Partners for their exceptional care and kindness.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe NC 28112.
