Gurney Cecil Pratt

Gurney Cecil Pratt, 76, of Monroe, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025. He was born in Alamance County, NC on June 2, 1949, son to the late Samuel Pratt and Geraldine Hightower Pratt.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. The body will be available for viewing prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Gordon Funeral Service.

Gurney was a teacher for 34 years and touched many lives throughout Union County. He also held his own class to teach older adults to read. Gurney’s love of teaching didn’t end with the public school system he was a devoted teacher of Gods word at the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, assisting many to progress to baptism and to have a relationship with Jehovah. He was known through the community as a loving and faithful husband, father, and friend.

Gurney is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Carolyn McLeod Pratt, two sons, Reuben Pratt (Sakeena), Sam Pratt (Alise), two daughters, Nichole Patterson, Tara Pratt, nine grandchildren, Mikeal SeQuan Pratt, Patrick Miller, Jayden Miller, Jiya Miller, Kahleel Pratt, Brendan Pratt, Brielle Pratt, Brooklyn Pratt, Jackson Pratt, two brothers, Keith Pratt (Barbara), Joel Pratt, a sister, Novie Jean Isley, as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
