Gus Billingsley

Gus Billingsley, 94, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023. He was born in Union County on January 9, 1929, the son of the late Lee Thomas Billingsley and Tinnie Pressley Billingsley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Deane Haigler Billingsley of Union County. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Hugh Billingsley, Oscar Billingsley, Curtis Billingsley, Bill Billingsley, Annie Lee Ferguson, and Dorothy Parks.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 1:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 12:45 PM prior to the service at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.

Gus is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Foster (Donald) of Jacksonville, FL, and Gail Howard (George) of Monroe, NC; two grandchildren, Seth Foster (Bethany) and George B “Ben” Howard IV (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren, Briar Howard and George B. Howard V.

Mr. Billingsley graduated from Benton Heights School. After graduation, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned to Union County, he owned and operated Monroe Glass Shop. Mr. Billingsley was a member of the Monroe Masonic Lodge 244. He was a member of this lodge for over 72 years and was awarded a 70-Year Service Award in 2021. He enjoyed traveling, refinishing furniture, gardening, and church activities.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Mr. Billingsley’s honor to a charity of your choice. His family would like to sincerely thank the ICU Nursing Staff at Atrium Union West Hospital in Stallings, N.C.
