Gwyn Long Griffin

Gwyndolon “Gwyn” Long Griffin, 83, of Monroe, NC passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022. She was born in Mecklenburg County on July 27, 1939, daughter to the late Charles Long and Bertice Williams Tucker. She was preceded in death by her son George Vann Griffin II and an infant daughter.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 7918 Crooked Creek Church Road, Monroe, NC 28110.

Gwyn is survived by her sons, Lane Griffin (Wendy), Alan Griffin (Melody), sister, Sheila Tucker Deal (Jim), and granddaughter Shea Griffin, step-grandchildren, Lindsey Shoultes (Chad), Chad Tyson, step-great-grandchildren, Grey Shoultes, Amos Shoultes.

After graduation from Pfeiffer College, Gwyn taught in the Union Country Public School System from 1967-1974. She then became an Administrator in UCPS, Right to Read Director for two years, Pupil Personnel Services Director for three years, Assistant Principal for one year and Principal for 16 years. She retired in August of 1996. Gwyn began her real estate career in 1985 with Countryside Real Estate Services of Monroe, NC and became a co-owner of the company from 1986 until 1989. From 1989 until present, Gwyn continued her career as an Independent Real Estate Broker.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
