Hallie Mae Edwards (Mullis) Cox

Hallie Mae Mullis Edwards Cox, 97, of Monroe, passed away Monday January 16, 2017 at the Hospice of Union County McWhorter House. She was born November 15, 1919 in Union County, a daughter of the late James Samuel and Nancy Hyatt Mullis. She was preceded in death by husband Clayton Edwards, husband Joe Cox, and son Sam Edwards. Funeral services for Mrs. Cox will be held Thursday, January 19 at 2:00 PM at the Gordon Funeral Chapel with Minister Dathan Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the funeral service from 1:00 -1:45 PM. Mrs. Cox is survived by daughters Bobbie Slaughter (Ted) of Charlotte, Sylvia Davis (Dick) of West Yellowstone, Montana/Monroe, Elizabeth Sheeks (Kelly) of Statesville, and daughter-in-law Mary Jane Edwards of Asheville. Grandchildren are Robert Purser of Indian Trail, David Purser of Kernersville, Mark Edwards of Monroe, James Edwards of Monroe, Mary Allison of Lake Junaluska, Shelley Hopkins of Hanahan, SC and Richard Davis of Monroe. There are fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four stepchildren Norma Wechsler, Vicki Geddings, Susie Nash, and Joey Cox. The family of Mrs. Cox would like to thank the dedicated staff of Woodridge Assisted Living, Hospice of Mecklenburg and Union County, and especially her caretaker Debbie Ford – all who provided such loving care in her later years. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Mecklenburg County, Hospice of Union County, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
