Harry Alonzo Godfrey, 94, passed away in his sleep at his home in Monroe, North Carolina on July 17, 2021. He was born January 27, 1927 in Union County, son of the late William Blythe Godfrey and Della Stephenson Godfrey. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, William Godfrey and Douglas Godfrey, and three sisters, Helen McLean, Mabel McCain, and Tots Horne. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday July 20, 2021 at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Harry Godfrey graduated from Jackson High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. He then served his country in WWII as a member of the Company C, 351st Infantry ‘Spearhead Regiment of the 88th Blue Devils’ Division of the U. S. Army. He was stationed in the Venezia-Giulia area of Italy. He was also the founder of Godfrey Construction Company, Inc. which he established in 1970 and remained at the helm of his business through his late 60’s. His beloved Kure Beach was his home away from home for many years. He spent much of his free time with family and friends fishing along the shores of Kure Beach and inlets of Fort Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Juanita Godfrey and three children, Karen Frazier (John) of Charlotte, NC, Debra Hinson (Tim) of Lake Wateree, SC, and David Godfrey, (Shelly) of Monroe, NC.
