Hazel Frances (Helms) Cook

Hazel Frances Helms Cook, 90, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016. She was born March 13, 1926, in Union County, NC, to the late Isaac Hilton and Gertie H. Helms. Mrs. Cook retired from the textile industry and was a lifelong member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church, where she was currently the eldest living member. Church and her family were her life. Mrs. Cook enjoyed spending time with her family that she dearly loved. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age where she served Him in her church by singing faithfully in the choir and with a church quartet called the Redeemed Quartet for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.A. Cook, Jr.; infant son, Gary Stephen Cook; and three brothers, Albert Helms, Cecil Bay Helms, Wriston Pete Helms, and a daughter-in-law Cindy Spittle Cook. Mrs. Cook is survived by her son Ronnie Cook and wife, Janice, of Carolina Shores, NC; three daughters, Phyllis McManus and husband, Norris, of Monroe, Sherrie Cook of Monroe, and Beverly Horton and husband, Keith, of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Amy Engman, Jennifer Cook, Kristi Boatwright, Kendall Anderson, Tara Cook, Bobby McManus, Mark Lemmond, Tracy Tucker, Crystal Bryant, and Brandon Horton; and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Secrest Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the church, with interment in the church cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Brookdale Monroe Square Assisted Living, where Mrs. Cook resided for the past three years for their loving care and support over the years.
