Hazel Reid Howey

Hazel Reid Howey, 84, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 in White Oak Manor of Waxhaw surrounded by his family. Hazel was born February 11, 1935 in Union County a son of the late Brown McSwain and Margaret Reid Howey. Hazel was a faithful member of Central Church of God where he was member of Men of Acts, and Cover to Cover Sunday School Class. He loved going on mission trips to John's Island. In recognition to his countless hours of volunteer work, his community named the community park after him, in his honor. He cherished his wife and loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a skilled story teller and always loved to give to others. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Central Church of God 5301 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, NC 28270 with the Rev. Greg Baker and Rev. Brad Burks officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. The family will also receives friends Friday, November 15, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service with the burial to follow at 11:00 AM in Lakeland Memorial Park. Hazel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dean, two sons, Greg Howey and his wife Amy of Monroe, Bill Howey of Charlotte, one sister, Margaret Norwood of Monroe, four grandchildren, Chris Howey and his wife Julia of Waxhaw, Heather Traywick of Unionville, Katie Boush and her husband Aaron of Roanoke, VA, Crystal Grasso and her husband Marco of Marshville, five great-grandchildern, Tracen, Hudson, Stella, Alivia and Marco, Jr. Memorials may be made to Central Church of God, Missions 5301 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, NC 28270.
