Helen (Wolfe) Helms

Helen Wolfe Helms, beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Helen Wolfe Helms, 80, a lifelong resident of Union County NC passed away peacefully at her home in Monroe on May 28, 2017 after a courageous five year battle with ovarian cancer. Visitation will be at Gordon Funeral Home in Monroe on May 31, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The graveside service will be at Lakeland Memorial Park on June 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Reverend Rich Myers of Oak Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Mrs. Helms was born on July 22, 1936 to Robert Hall Wolfe and Georgia Hancock Wolfe. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1954 and married Donald W. Helms on November 11, 1955 at the Oak Grove Church parsonage by the Reverend Bud Griffin. Helen retired from Tamarind Sportswear after many years as a career seamstress. After her retirement she enjoyed spending time in her extensive flower gardens with family members, and bird watching, especially her hummingbirds. She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Mrs. Kathleen Barbee, Mrs. Sadie Hockenberry, Mrs. Mildred Pass, and Mrs. Frances Lundy: One brother, Donald Wolfe. Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Donald Walter Helms. Two sons and much loved daughter-in-laws: Steven Donald and Vicki Helms of Weddington, Douglas Hall and Anita Helms of Asheboro. Her six grandchildren: Erich, Karl, Jessica, Brandon wife Tonia, Ashley, and Stephanie Helms. One brother: Wayne Wolfe and wife Barbra Wolfe. Helen wished to acknowledge her very special and caring sister-in-law Mary Helms, and her dear friend of many years, Floya Pressley. A special thanks to Kenny Miles for being a helpful and good neighbor.
