Henrietta Francis Karas

Mrs. Henrietta Francis Karas, 86, of North Dakota, passed away February 14, 2020.She was born in Walsh county, ND on June 3, 1933 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Shirek) Kovarik. She married Edward W Karas on June 20th, 1950 at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They lived and farmed in Lankin, ND retiring in 1991. She loved to bake, tell stories, listen and dance to polkas and waltzes. Her family meant the world to her. She taught her grandchildren everything that she knew about baking and sewing. She also enjoyed planting her flowers and vegetable garden every spring after the snow melted. The memories we all share are so great that it is hard to choose just one. Henrietta is survived by her son Edward J Karas (Debbie) Petersburg, ND and daughter Marilyn E Speer (Frank) Monroe, NC; 7 grandchildren: Brian Karas (Samantha Reinert)Grand Forks, ND, Kelli Wixo (Matt) Colorado Springs, CO, Jean Schmidt (Derek) Grand Forks, ND, Angie Vanhoy (Eric) Albemarle, NC, Catherine Speer Monroe, NC, Jessica Ridge (Steve) Monroe, NC, and Frank Speer Simpsonville, SC; 12 great grandchildren: Erika Wolf, Will Wolf, Sydney Karas, Zachary Wixo, Tucker Wixo, Grady Schmidt, Keagan Schmidt, Britney Dulin, Joseph Dulin, Amy Ridge, William Ridge, and Angel Sponseller; 2 great-great grandchildren: Chloe Duncan and Drake Sponseller; 3 siblings: Mayme Lukes, Irene Hodek and Roland Kovarik. Henrietta is preceded in death by Edward W. Karas (husband), Mildred Kratochvil (sister), Jerry Kovarik (brother), Marcy Sticha (sister), Joey Kovarik (brother), John Kovarik (brother), and Terry Kovarik (nephew). Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. Family will receive friends following the service. Funeral Service and burial to be in North Dakota at a later date.
