Henrietta Elaine McCorkle Mangum, 86, of Indian Trial, NC passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Union County on November 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Henry Arthur McCorkle and Effie McKenzie McCorkle. She is also preceded in death by her husband Kenneth H. Mangum, and brother Steve McCorkle.
Sunset came on Monday, September 11, 2023, as the guiding light of so many lives departed her earthly body to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A kind and beautiful soul who lived a life of service to both Jesus and people alike, Henrietta taught piano for 60 years both in her home and at Tabernacle Christian School, as well as playing in several different churches on Sunday mornings throughout her life. Over those 60 years, she taught countless students, sharing her joy and love of music with enthusiastic young learners. Every Sunday as church bells rang and people convened on pews around the state of North Carolina, so many of her pupils are playing the sounds of Sunday service as church pianist and organist, providing the soundtrack of worship and carrying on her legacy for years to come. She carried a spirit of love, care, kindness, and reverence with her throughout her life. Her presence had an aura that touched people deeply in their souls. Her love feels irreplaceable and will be missed by friends and family for the rest of our lives.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Lee Park Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110. She will be laid to rest following the service beside her husband in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Next to her love for Jesus came her love for her family. Henrietta is survived by her daughter Judy Mangum Smith, son Mike Mangum (Cathy), four grandchildren, Brandon Mangum, Jennifer Mangum, Catherine Mangum, and Phillip Mangum, as well as four great-grandchildren, Myca Hernandez, and McKenzie Hernandez, Leah Melton and Grayson Melton.
