Dateline: Monroe, NC Henry Dewey “Duke” Parker, 78, died Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was born in Chesterfield County, SC on June 21, 1929, son of the late Dock Roland and Daisy Threat Parker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Flow Parker in 2005. A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mr. Parker was owner and operator of Duke’s Grill for 42 years, served on the Monroe City School Board for eight years and served eight years as a Monroe City Councilman, and was Mayor Pro-Tem for four years. He was the Centralina Council of Governments chairman for two years, a Boy Scout leader for many years, and a charter member of Masonic Lodge #749. He was a member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church. Mr. Parker is survived by his daughter, Gail and husband Butch Derrick of Monroe; a sister, Ruth Presley of Monroe; grandchildren Brandon Derrick, Linzie Derrick Knotts and Parker Derrick and one great-grandson, Dock Derrick. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
