Henry Hayne Rushing, 82, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019., he was born in Union County on August 24, 1936 to the late Andrew Jackson and Ona Williams Rushing. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Revonda Rushing Mathis, brother Jackson Wayne Rushing, and sister Sarah Loraine Cornett. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm Tuesday May 21, 2019 at Shiloh Advent Christian Church, 3601 Sikes Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Hayne is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Edith Little Rushing, daughter Renn Rushing Farmer, husband Shane, grandchildren; Tate Barr and Gage Barr and loyal Grand dog Buster. He served his country in the US Army and during the Berlin Wall crisis his picture appeared in the December 1961 edition of the National Geographic. Hayne was very active in sports, baseball and basketball in his younger years. At the age of 50 he started playing golf and had two holes in ones in less than a year apart. After retirement he bowled in a Senior bowling league. He was a lifetime member of Shiloh Advent Christian Church, where he served many years as a deacon and trustee. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Monday, May 20, 2019, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. A quote that was dear to Mr. Rushing was “At this point in my obituary, disregard the customary practice of commenting on where I am going to spend eternity, I am fully confident the Lord has the ability to make that decision on His own without any helpful suggestions from earthly beings.” In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110.
