Henry Cobia West

Monroe, NC Henry Cobia West, Jr., 85, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008 in Irmo, SC. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall. Henry also known as “Buddy” was born and raised in Monroe, N.C. on January 15, 1923 son of the late Henry Cobia and Hilda Hesselgrave West. He attended N.C. State University and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948. He enlisted in the US Army and served in Corps of Engineers during World War II and the Korean War. He married Anagrace “June” Roby in May of 1953. Henry retired as a Major in the US Army and returned to Monroe where he was employed as Personnel Director at Dickerson, Inc. Henry was an active member Of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and served as Church Treasurer. He was a volunteer at Union Memorial Hospital for several years. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, June Roby West. Mr. West is survived by three sons, Henry Cobia West, III and his wife Debby, Columbia, SC, William Keith West of Monroe, NC and Brian David West and his wife Janet of Helena, Montana; five grandchildren, Sean West, Kelly Newton, Chelsea Prevette, Emily West and John West; and 5 great grandchildren; Anagrace Prevette, Jack Newton, Lorelei Taylor-West, Anderson Prevette, Ashton Prevette.
