Our beloved mother, Hilda Price Benton of Wingate, went to be with our Lord on May 26th, 2025. Hilda was 88 and was surrounded by her family at home when she passed.
Hilda was the daughter of the late Vance Price and the late Dora Baucom, born on May 28th, 1936. She was preceded in death by 8 siblings: 3 sisters (Rossie Johnson, Lillian Privette, Vera Dunn) and 5 brothers (Alfred Price, Nathan Price, Rayford Price, Wayne Price, Raymond Price).
When Hilda was 17 years old, she met the love of her life at a prayer meeting at church. In 1954, she married Harvey Benton, and they went on to have 3 children, son Steve Benton of Wingate, daughter Sandra Benton (in heaven) and daughter Joy Benton-Clark of Indian Trail. Their 70+ year marriage was one of the greatest joys of her life.
In addition to being a loving mother and devoted wife, Hilda loved cooking for her family, friends and church, it was part of her love language. But more importantly, Hilda was a woman of unwavering faith, whose love for the Lord was shown through every aspect of her life. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love and compassion, and she was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her sweet smile she gave to everyone was like sunshine.
Hilda Benton is survived by her husband Harvey Benton, 2 children (Steve and Joy) 6 grandchildren: Brad Benton, Michael Benton, Amber Pylant, Janie Benton (in heaven), Jake Benton and Jessica Benton, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. While we grieve Hilda’s passing, we find solace and hope in Christ’s resurrection and the assurance that we will one day be reunited in Heaven.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM at West Monroe Baptist Church, 1212 Icemorlee St, Monroe, NC 28112, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, where we will gather to honor Hilda’s memory and rejoice in the promise of everlasting life. She will be laid to rest at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM in the church.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” -John 14 1-4
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” -Matthew 25:23
