Mrs. Karen Killough Simpson, 60, passed away at home on August 13, 2014. She was born December 23, 1953 in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late Mabel Lee Killough and the late Curtis Killough of Indian Trail. Karen was preceded in passing by her parents, sister Patricia Killough and infant sister. Karen is survived by her husband Dennis Simpson; her daughter, Leah Croom and husband Tim Croom of Indian Trail, NC; her son, Reece Simpson and wife Devon Simpson of Harrisburg, NC; granddaughter, Anna Croom and grandson, Caleb Croom; brother, Dr. Richard Killough and wife Kay of Huntersville, NC and many other loving family members. Karen enjoyed her children and took great efforts to guide them into responsible adults. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and always had plenty of toys and books to keep them busy during the visits. Karen enjoyed needle point, ceramics and her work as a dental hygienist before peripheral neuropathy pain prevented her from taking part in those activities. The last twelve years of her life, she faced the challenges of this condition but she never let it prevent her from taking the time to smile and talk with others and encourage them. She will be missed by her family and friends, but they can take solace that she is not in pain anymore. Visitation will be Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 1:30 - 2:45 pm with the service at 3:00 pm at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Highway, Monroe, NC. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery.
