Dateline: Monroe, NC J. C. Herring, “Pop Pop”, 94, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013. He was born in Union County, NC on March 6, 1918 son of the late Hannibal Richard and Beulah Turner Herring. Mr. Herring was a US Navy WW II veteran and a retired supervisor in the textile industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and working in his yard. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Monroe City Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louvinia Carroll Herring. Mr. Herring is survived by a son, Richard Herring and wife Kathryn, of Monroe, sister, Jo Cantor of Charlotte, grandchildren, Richard “Rick” Herring and wife Trenda, Steve Herring and wife Ann, and Kevin Herring and wife Lisa, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
