Jack Hamilton Freeman, 89, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018. Jack was born in Henderson County on October 13, 1928 to the late William Edward and Clara Geneva Hart Freeman. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Alice White Freeman, a daughter Janet Moore, a brother Charles Freeman and two sisters, Mary Jane Hearn and Margaret Nicholson Denzel. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will visit with friends and relatives following the service. Mr. Freeman was a United States Veteran, where he served in the US Air Force. He was a United States Veteran, where he served in the US Air Force. Jack was past President of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra and founded its string educational program for young children in the Henderson County Schools. A member of the First United Methodist Church, Jack had a knack for storytelling, and a love of card games, photography and music. He shared his life openly and with great joy. He cared for many and remembered friends and caregivers with special gifts of music or items from the local curb market. In later years, Jack and Mary Alice built the Felburn Foundation Nature Conservancy Library in Tryon where Mary Alice’s love of books and his love of nature created a perfect gathering place for family and others to enjoy a lovingly tended herb garden and Nature Library along the Pacolet River. Jack lived a long and happy life surrounded by family, friends and his beloved Blue Ridge Mountains. Jack is survived by three daughters, Linda Smith and husband David of Monroe, Kathy Mackey of Houston, TX and Judy Turner and husband Tom of Warner Robins, GA; a brother, Don Edward Freeman of Jamestown, NC; one sister, Barbara Hunnicutt of Hendersonville, NC. Jack’s great joy was his family as his 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren know very well. He will be missed on this earth, but he we are rejoice in his homecoming free of pain and sickness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra of Hendersonville, NC and the Alliance for Children of Monroe, NC.
