Jack Celathial Helms

Jack Celathial Helms, 89 of Monroe NC, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Jack was born April 18, 1933 to the late Willie C. and Faye Greene Helms.

Jack graduated from Benton Heights High School in 1952, and served in the United States Navy for four years. After his honorable discharge Jack went to work for Tools Service where he worked for six years. He then began his career at Vanguard Supreme where he worked for over 55 years until his retirement. Jack was a Charter Member of Benton Heights Baptist Church in Monroe.

After retirement, Jack spent most of his days in his shop. Many days you could find Jack and Smith, his best friend and brother in law helping each other build anything from bird houses to outdoor swings to household furniture. If the two of them were not woodworking, there was always a lawn mower or tractor in the shop to be worked on.

Jack is preceded in death by his siblings Lucille Pigg, Rebecca Plyler, Roberta Wilson and Richard Helms. He is also preceded in death by his brothers in law, Uriah Plyler and Mack Pigg, niece Donna Edwards and nephew Michael Plyler.

Jack is survived by his sister Nancy (Robert) Helms, brother in law Smith (Carole) Wilson, sister in law Cheryl (Gary) Pressley, nieces Julie (Greg) Eudy, Angela (Steve) Brown, nephews David (Lee Ann) Wilson, Chris (Leslie) Helms, Tim Edwards, Phillip (Laura) Pigg, and Greg Plyler and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:30PM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112, burial to follow with full military honors at Lakeland Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:00PM until 2:15PM prior to the service at Gordon Funeral Service.
