James "Jim" Andrew

November 17, 1941 — January 7, 2017

James (Jim) David Andrew, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 7, 2017. He was born on November 17, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa. Jim was the oldest of 4 children born to parents James Edward and Mary Eleanor Stringham Andrew. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 5 under his mother’s guidance. After reading the book Jungle Pilot as a teenager, Jim felt called to missions. He then attended Moody Bible Institute as a young man. On January 20th 1962, he married his sweetheart Judith Kay McMenomy, beginning a 54 year and 353 day journey together. In 1969, Jim ( Judy) joined Wycliffe Bible Translators. He initially served in the ministry of Bible translation as an aviation mechanic. Forty seven years of service in aviation operations included assignments in Ecuador, Columbia, JAARS, and Indonesia. Music was always special to Jim. He served many years as church organist, pianist, he also sang in quartets and choirs. In earlier years, he taught Sunday school and was an AWANA commander at JAARS. Because he enjoyed helping others he volunteered with the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad; including serving as chief of substation 27. In his spare time, Jim was an avid gardener and remote control airplane enthusiast. A celebration of life service will be held at the JAARS center, Townsend Auditorium- Thursday, January 12 at 1:30pm. Rev. Larry Twitty officiating. Jim is survived by his loving wife Judy, his daughters; Tara (Paul) Sherwood, Crystal (Lamar) Galloway, Sheryl (Lee) Robitschek, and son David (Mary) Andrew, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Dan (Barb) Andrew, sister Mary (Billy )Krueger and many nieces nephews.
