James Hilton Brooks

James Hilton Brooks of Wingate, NC was promoted to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Hilton was born in Union County on January 7, 1931, to the late James Boyce and Ruby Price Brooks. He lived in the Fairview community until age twelve. His family then moved to the Allens Cross Roads community in southern Union County, where he resided the remainder of his life. Mr. Brooks was a lifelong farmer and businessman, previously owning Wingate Feed and Farm Service and Brooks Sales, Inc. Hilton is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Joan Pigg Brooks; two sons, Philip Brooks and wife Sheila of Marshville, David Brooks and wife Joy of Wingate, and daughter, Gina Brooks Morris and husband Steve of Lenoir City, TN. His only surviving sibling is a brother, Max Brooks and wife Sarah of Wingate. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his two sisters, Marselene Foard and husband DeWitt and Willie Faire Griffin and husband Bill, both of Charlotte. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate service to our loved one by Hospice of Union County staff, Mary, Jan and Tammy. The family will receive friends at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112, from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm on Monday, October 17. A Celebration Service of his life will be Tuesday, October 18 at 2:00pm at Trinity Baptist Church of Monroe, NC. Interment will follow at Faulks Baptist Church Cemetery of Marshville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 2613 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110 or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110.
