James “Jim” Buchanan, 75, passed away December 19, 2014 at his home in Waxhaw, NC. He was first born of five sons to James and Francis Buchanan. He was born December 12th, 1939 in Morgantown, WV. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. After living and working in Seattle Washington, he returned to the Mountain State working in the Mines at Fed #1, Fed #2 and JoAnn at Rachel. He lived and raised 3 boys, James, Jr., Robert, Randy and two daughters Ronda Renda in Fairmont. In 1989 he moved to North Carolina and later settled with his family in Waxhaw. He was employed at Lowes, Carolina Builders and Stock Builders before retiring. Setting the example for his kids grandkids, he started over with nothing, moving to North Carolina in a camper to take an entry level hourly job and with hard work and perseverance carved out a comfortable life for him and his family. Reminding us that you are never too old to learn, at the age of 55 he went back to school and received his GED. He fought to live just as hard as he worked and cheated death several times in the last couple of years. He leaves behind a loving wife of over 34 years, Rickey Jane, who cared for him up until his final hour, his five children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, two brothers and his two beloved dogs. Quick with a smile and love of a good joke, we will miss his laugh, his wonderful sense of humor, his warm presence and genuine love of his family and friends. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family. The family would like to recognize the wonderful care provided by the folks at Hospice Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial gifts to Hospice Palliative Care Charlotte Region, (HPCCR) 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
