James Randall Cox (Randy), born May 9th, 1951, died March 24th, 2019 at his home in Union County of natural causes. He is preceded in death by his mother Melva Williams and his father Allen Cox, step-mother Mable Price, step-father Raymond Williams and a stepbrother David Williams. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC., burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family from 11:00am until 1:45pm prior to the service at the funeral home. He is survived by his loving wife Kate Flinchum Cox of 45 years. His three children Beth Sharpe (Kevin), Andy Cox and Brian Cox. His grandchildren Bo Cox, Tyson Cox, Kendall Cox, Sam Cox, Seth Cox, Deacon Cox, Gabriel Sharpe and Lily Sharpe. In addition he is survived by his beloved brother Don Cox (Penny) and sister Linda Jenkins (Tim). Stepbrothers Harold Price (Beth), Ray Williams ,stepsisters Marsha Belk (Richard), Tracy Mork (Bruce), Cindy Medlin (Billy), Kim Price, Phyllis Leffler, and Trisha Norris. Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews. Randy was an avid football fan and previous player. He played at Monroe High School and then went on to get a football scholarship to Wake Forest University. While there he was privileged to have been on the ACC championship team in 1970. Shortly thereafter he met Kate Flinchum who became is wife of 45 years and they had three children. Randy was a loving husband, father and friend. Anyone who knew him, knew his character to be one of the most honest, hardworking, and loving Christian men. Randy served the Union County Sheriff's office for over 27 years. While there he served in many capacities and retired as Captain in 2002. The most important thing about Randy was that he loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his life accordingly. Randy will be missed but never forgotten. WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN IN HEAVEN!! LOVE YOU ALWAYS!
