Dateline: Monroe NC James Fairley Drake Jr., 81, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Thursday, April 3, 2008, born July 22, 1926 in Union County son to the late James Fairley Drake, Sr. and Nellie Jeanette Benton Drake. He is preceded in death by seven brothers Floyd, Paul, Lloyd, Brice, Bill, Baxter, and Hubert Drake, three sisters Ann Dorton, Dora Williams, and Ollie Greene. Mr. Drake was a WWII Army Veteran, and retired from Teledyne Allvac in 1988 after 22 ½ years of service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2008 at New Hope Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Polk Drake, three sons Steve Drake (wife) Vivian, Lynn Drake (wife) Vickie, and Wayne Drake (wife) Chris, one daughter Peggy D. Polk (husband) Bennett, all of Monroe, eight grandchildren Kelly Polk (wife) Melissa, Christy Baucom (husband) Ken, Holly Griffin (husband) Jeremy, Kari Croasmun (husband) Dac, Amanda Myers (husband) Jeff, Chad Drake (wife) Amy, Jessica Drake, and Travis Drake all of Monroe, eleven great grandchildren Jackie Baucom, Luke Croasmun, Gracie Croasmun, Ethan Griffin, Kristen Polk, Ava Griffin, Nicholas Drake, Brady Drake, Emily Polk, Parker Myers and Skylar Baucom all of Monroe, one brother Fred Drake (wife) Edith of Stanfield, one sister Bertis Baucom (husband) Bill of Monroe. The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, 2008 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Gordon Funeral Cremation Service 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe.
