James Wendell Evans Sr.

James Wendell Evans Sr., 81, of Wingate, NC passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born in McDowell County, WV, son of the late George Wendell Evans and Ruby Beavers Evans. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Lurah Taylor and grandson James Evans III.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in Wingate City Cemetery, 3917 Hwy 74 East, Wingate, NC 28174.

James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wanda Peery Evans, two sons; James Evans Jr.(Shana), and Joseph  Evans (Dawn), sister Brenda Bowling, six grandchildren; Leigh Ann Witherspoon (Ryan), Alena Evans, (Dercell), Hannah Saunders (Jesse), Emily Evans, Taylor Parker, and Jacob Evans, as well as five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to  St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
