James Ellison Gordon, 96, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026. He was born January 14, 1930, in Union County, NC, son of the late Plummer James Gordon & Connie Watkins Gordon. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sara Starnes Gordon, and his second wife, Frances Nance Gordon, daughter, Susan Gordon Thomas, three brothers, Ralph Gordon, Frank Gordon, and Joe Gordon, five sisters, Kathleen Robinson, Bonnie Outen, Hazel Price, Johnnie Summerlin, and Lois Simpson.

James served in the US Army and was a proud veteran. He was the owner of Gordon Tile and Marble and founder of Heatherloch. James loved playing cards as well as deep sea fishing and often took his family. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Walkersville Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 6204 Brady Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 1:00PM to 1:45PM in the church sanctuary.

He is survived by two daughters, Gail Gordon Smith and husband Glenn, Teresa Gordon Whitley and husband Zeb, six grandchildren, Emily Mills and husband Tyler, Lauren Helms, Rebecca Wesson and husband Chuck, James McLester and wife Holly, Kim Boehke and Casey Starnes and husband Bubba, ten great-grandchildren, Preston Mills, Trevor Mills, Adeline Mills, Sara Boehke, Gavin Boehke, Olin Boehke, Ellie Garrett, Job Garrett, Braxton Starnes, and Emmett Starnes, as well as his sister, Polly Haigler.
