Memorial Service
Gordon Funeral Chapel
Starts at 6:00 pm (Eastern time)
James “Jim” Harold Rankin, 78, of Monroe, NC passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born in Wyoming County, WV on January 5, 1948, son to the late Clarence Rankin and Ruth Rankin. He is preceded in death by his sister Marcia Cherry and granddaughter Alexandra Kirton.
A memorial service will be held 6:00PM on Friday, February 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie King Rankin, two daughters, Crystal Norman (David), Denise Walden (Jason), two grandchildren, Savannah Broome (Logan), Braxton Kirton, a great-grandchild, Mason Broome, a brother, Paul David Rankin (Marie), and a sister Linda Wilson.
Jim was the proud owner of Tekshop of NC, a computer repair business he faithfully operated from 1990 until his passing, reflecting his dedication, problem-solving mind, and steady hands. He delighted in life’s simple pleasures—Peter Pan peanut butter, cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Redskins, and anything that celebrated his deep love for country. Jim adored his grandchildren beyond measure, loved his children dearly, and—by his own playful admission—occasionally “tuned out” his wife, a lighthearted joke he credited as the secret to their beautiful 58 years of marriage (said with a smile and a wink 😉). He cherished family game nights filled with laughter, held a lifelong fascination with science and history, and was always eager to learn something new. Known for his patience and precision, Jim spent countless hours assembling model cars, airplanes, and other intricate projects. In his final days, we are confident Jim was at peace, comforted by the assurance that he would soon meet Jesus face to face.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to St. Judes Children Hospital in honor of Jim Rankin. https://www.stjude.org/
