Obituary

James L. Skip Skipper, 77, of Waxhaw, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was born September 11, 1940 in Union County a son of the late Betty Lou Griffin Carter. He retired as a State Inspector with the NCDA. He owned and operated Skip's Archery Shop for over 40 years. He was a founding member of the Indian Trail Bow Club and served as an officer in the NFAA. A memorial service will be held 12:00PM Monday, November 6, 2017 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112 with the Rev. Mitchell Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM till 11:45AM Monday before the service at the funeral home. Skip is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Barbara D. Skipper, two sons, Freddy Skipper and his wife Lisa of Indian Land, SC, Larry Skipper of Hemby Bridge, NC, a daughter, Ann Hasty and her husband Ben of Indian Trail, NC, five grandchildren, Heather Skipper, Emily Shapiro and her husband Adam, Haley Cobb and her husband Richard, Samantha Hasty, Seth Sutton, two great-grandchildren, Landon Shapiro and Mason Cobb. The family request, in lieu of flowers, memorial be made to the Wounded Warrior Archery Foundation, 1162 Fremont Road Summerton, SC 29148 or the NRA, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
