Jane Cooke (Cox) Gordon

December 19, 1925 — July 10, 2014

Jane Cooke Cox Gordon, age 88, died at Carillon Assisted Living in Monroe, NC on July 10, 2014. Jane was born on December 19, 1925 in Raleigh NC to Oza and James Avery Cox. She attended Franklinton High School and East Carolina University. On August 29, 1948, she married Olin Max Gordon, of Monroe, and in 2010, they celebrated their 62th wedding anniversary. Jane dedicated her life to Max and her family. She was a homemaker and loving mother. When Max retired in 1976, they moved to their farm on Weddington Road in Monroe. Jane enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, needlework, stained glass and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She and Max divided their time between Monroe and their second home in Myrtle Beach. Jane was an active member of the Methodist Congregation at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and of Hebron Methodist Church of Union County. Jane's faith was the cornerstone of her life and when Max died, she wanted nothing more than to join him in heaven. Jane created a place for herself at Carillon Assisted Living where she was beloved by residents and staff for her kind, gentle nature. She will be sorely missed by her brother, William Avery Cox of Raleigh; her children, Sandra Jane Morgan of Fredericksburg, VA, and James Max Gordon of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, James Todd Gordon, Kristy Janette Gordon, Jeffrey Pierce Morgan, Matthew Robert Morgan; and great grandchildren, Macie Elizabeth Gordon and James Benjamin Gordon. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Max Gordon, and her sisters, Frances Ann Hadlock and Sue Lee Gillam. Relatives and friends are welcome at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 am. Services will be held at 11:00 am in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will be immediately after the service at Lakeland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hebron Methodist Church, 2820 New Town Rd., Monroe, NC 28110.
