Jane Milton Hawkins

January 23, 1944 — April 13, 2021

Jane Yount Hawkins passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Union County on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. She was born in McDowell County on January 23, 1944. In 1970, shortly after her marriage to Ralph Hawkins, Sr., they moved to Union County, where she has resided for the last fifty-plus years. She enjoyed a long career as a teacher assistant, spending most of her career at Marshville Elementary. Jane was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe, where she served as the church hostess, a wedding director, and the leader of the bereavement committee for many years. She particularly enjoyed her Sunday School class, the Then and Now Class, participating in the Wednesday Night meals, and being part of the Lottie Moon-Poovey Group. Jane also enjoyed volunteering within the community. After the death of her first husband, Ralph, she decided the best way she could give back to Hospice was to volunteer. She actively volunteered with the Hospice Auction, selling Christmas ornaments for the Hospice tree, as well as the Hospice Golf Tournament. She also volunteered with Crisis Assistance Ministries, as a member of their Board of Directors. Jane was preceded by her first husband, Ralph Hawkins, Sr. as well as her parents and one sister. She is survived by her son, Ralph Hawkins, Jr. (Melody); her daughter, Cissy Brewer (Buddy); and her grandchildren, Heath Hawkins, Will, Callie, and Emma Brewer. She is also survived by her husband, Ted Geouge and his daughter, Candice Hellyar (Steve), and granddaughter, Chayce, as well as a sister, a brother, and many cousins. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Friday, April 16 at 3:00 pm in the courtyard and multipurpose room of First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 W Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service. As a loving wife, mom, and Grammie, her dedication to her family and friends was evident to everyone during her life. She truly made a difference in the lives of many. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W.
