Jane Peterson Herrell, 99, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013. She was born November 18, 1913 in Yancey County, NC daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Flora Horton Peterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Herrell. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. Mrs. Herrell is survived by her son Gene Herrell, and wife Pat of Monroe, two sisters Ruth Hodge of Rutherfordton and Pauline Vaughn of Morristown TN, two grandchildren Steve Herrell, and wife Krista, and Susanne Ungerer, and husband Gerhard, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a retiree of the Mitchell County, NC School System, where she was employed for many years as School Food Services Supervisor. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Jesse Helms Center and Hospice of Union County for the wonderful care they proved for Mrs. Herrell.
