Jean Godfrey Gordon, 91, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on June 2, 2023. She was born July 26, 1931, in Union County to the late David Crayton and Dora Blake Phifer Godfrey.
Jean was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was always generous with her time and talents. Many recall her excellent cooking and the tasty treats she loved to bake and gift to others. She enjoyed her long career as a top salesperson at Belk in Monroe prior to her retirement. Jean was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Edwards Gordon, and one brother William “Bill” Godfrey, three sisters: Gladys Walkup, Davy Lynn Helms, and Emmy Lou Haywood.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Elyea (Chuck) and Susan Harker (Richard), six grandchildren: Joshua Elyea, Jonathan Elyea, Jennifer Elyea (fiancée Shelby Ewing), Joseph Elyea (Audrey Kate), Christopher Harker, Colby Harker (Sara Beth), three sisters: Mary Ben Burgess, Peggy Crabtree, Jackie Tucker, and many nieces & nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 9, at 2:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.
