Jimmy Eugene Drake

Mr. Jimmy Eugene “Gene” Drake, 90, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Union County on May, 21, 1929 to the late Floyd and Verla Baucom Drake. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Heath Drake and niece Rebecca Honeycutt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, December 9, 2019 at Mill Creek Baptist Church, 5417 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110. Burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30pm to 1:45pm in the church sanctuary. Gene was survived by his devoted wife of over 69 years Rachel Pressley Drake, daughter Debbie (Tom) Baucom, son Jimmy B. (Phyllis) Drake, grandchildren Kelly (Jeff) Hinson, Shannon (Tony) Wright, Scott (Jessica) Drake, Lauren (Brandon) Helms, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters: Edith (Maurice) Honeycutt and Judy (Bobby) Griffin. He was a United States Army Veteran that saw combat in Korea and duty in W. Germany, longtime employee of Holly Farms and Tyson Foods. Gene was a lifetime member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church, 5417 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
