Jimmy Olin Helms

Jimmy Olin Helms, 81, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Hospice of Union County. He was born April 5, 1934, in Union County, NC to the late James Wriston Helms and Autie Ann Greene Helms. Mr. Helms was a 1953 graduate of Benton Heights High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953-1955. He retired from Griffin Motor Company, where he was a salesman. A charter member of Benton Heights Baptist Church, Mr. Helms was a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of the Oasis-Temple, and past president of the Union County Shrine Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Louvinia Lou Broome Helms; daughters, Kim Helms of Monroe and partner, Jennifer Boggs and Anara Helms Bland and husband, Matt of Weddington; grandsons, Jackson and Mason Bland; and sister, Linda H. Jones of Monroe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Deuel Greene and Billy Helms. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 13, 2015, from 2:30 to 3:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM Sunday in the Gordon Funeral Chapel.
