Jimmy Ormand Medlin

December 23, 1939 — August 10, 2017

Jimmy O. Medlin, 77, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Jim was born on December 23, 1939 in Monroe, NC to the late Reece and Aileen Strawn Medlin. A lifelong resident of Union County and avid cattle farmer, he raised Santa Gertrudis, Longhorn, Black Angus, Ankole-Watusi, and buffalo over the years. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army, and was retired from Roadway Corporation after many years of service. Jim is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lynda Reames Medlin. He is survived by his two sisters, Becky Byrum (Don deceased) and Debra Griggs (Randall), four brothers, Harold Sr. (Grace), Walter (Violet), David (Melmar), and Tim (Laurie) Medlin, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ella Mae Stewart (Ardell, deceased) of Newton NC, and Mrs. Virginia Long (Charles) of Lincolnton NC, brother-in-law, Thad Reames (Carolyn) of Charlotte, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 13, 2017 with Rev Paul Saleeby officiating at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memorial and Honor Gifts, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148-01482 or to the charity of one’s choice.
