Joe David Funderburk

Joe David Funderburk, 75, passed away May 9, 2015. He was born in Union County, NC on September 2, 1939 son of the late Joe and Ruth Baker Funderburk. David was a man who loved his Lord, his family and missions. His wife of 33 years was the love of his life. They were partners in all they did in business and Christian work. He had been on mission trips overseas and also did site grading for many of the churches in Union Baptist Association. He was active in the association as well. He and his wife spent 3 ½ years in church planting in the Indian Trail area. David served many positions in his church as teacher, Baptist Men’s Director and Sunday School director before his health declined. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. David is survived by his wife, Verna Starnes Funderburk, sons, David Scott Funderburk, wife Kris of Monroe, Kevin Runyan, wife Adrienne of Silverdale, Washington, Brian Runyan, wife Phyllis of Monroe, daughters, Ginger F. Shaffer, husband Keith of Monroe, Jennifer F. Prickett, husband George of Sandy, Utah, Deana Runyan Date, husband Cary of Waxhaw, brothers, Ken Funderburk, wife Janet of Mint Hill, Ralph Funderburk of Monroe, Charles Ray Funderburk, wife Donna of Mt. Gilead, sisters, Doris Glenn, husband Jerry of Goldsboro, Ann Trogdon, husband Tim of Asheboro, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Funderburk. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt.
