John Howard Carnes

John Howard Carnes, 58, of Wingate, NC went trucking into Heaven on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. He was born in Union County on October 14, 1965, the son of Beverly Clontz Carnes and the late Jerry Carnes.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11: 00 AM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at East Campus FBCIT, 6140 W. Marshville Blvd. Marshville, NC 28103. The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary.

Most people knew him as “Big John”, and he was a hard working man. He was a truck driver, employed by Gerald Clontz Trucking where he worked for over 35 years. In his spare time, John loved to hunt with his hounds, drive his Peterbilts, and he could always be found wearing shorts, regardless of the season. He was a friend to many and he never met a stranger. He was loved by his friends and family, and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Donelle Starnes Carnes, his son, Jacob Carnes; his daughter, Rachel Carnes; sisters, Karen Holt (Kenneth) and Laura Nettles (Jason); sisters-in-law, Deborah Stegall (Scott) and Denita Smith (Marty); brother-in-law, Chad Starnes (Lea Anna); as well as many nieces and nephews.
