John Hammonds, Jr., 88, passed away, Thursday, April 21, 2016. He was born May 4, 1927 in Union County, son of the late John Harrison and Mary Bright Helms Hammonds. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Larry and Garry Hammonds and sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Reedy and Virginia Brooks. Funeral services will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 4:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 2:00-3:45 PM prior to the funeral. Mr. Hammonds is survived by his wife, Eleanor Starnes Hammonds; daughter, Diane Hammonds Poole of Waxhaw; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Rushing of Mineral Springs, Betty Smith of Indian Trail and Deane Parker of Monroe.
