John "Jack" Hancock

Dateline: Mineral Springs, NC John Jackson (Jack) Hancock of Mineral Springs, NC passed away on July 10, 2011. He was born to the late John Henry Hancock and Mabel Crow Hancock on January 3, 1944 in Union County, NC. Jack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marsha Helms Hancock; son, Aaron of Mineral Springs; sister, Mary Ellen and husband, Lee Bouchard of Trinity, NC. He and Marsha were guardians for Sarah and Jennifer Newman for three years while their parents served as missionaries in Slovakia. Several other children have called their place “home” as well. Jack served his country as a decorated Marine during the Vietnam War. He worked 41 years as a design engineer at Birch Brothers Southern, where he made many close, life-long friendships. Jack served generously in many capacities in the Mineral Springs Church of Christ, where he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 with a memorial service on Wednesday at 10:00 am in the Gordon Funeral Chapel.
