John Henry Hancock

Monroe, NC John Henry Hancock, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010. He was born August 4, 1924 in Union County, son of the late John Lee and Bessie Broome Hancock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Crow Hancock, a brother, Tillman Lee Hancock and a sister, Bessie Jane Rowell. Mr. Hancock graduated from Mineral Springs High School and was a long-time member of Mineral Springs United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 17 years and served on various committees. He was a retired chemical plant manager. Mr. Hancock enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. Mr. Hancock is survived by a son, John Jackson Hancock and wife Marsha of Monroe; a daughter, Mary Ellen Bouchard and husband Lee of Trinity, NC; grandchildren Christy Saunders and husband Chuck, Angie Bouchard and Aaron D. Hancock; and great-grandchildren Devin, Chase and Faith Saunders. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends Friday, May 14, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service.
