John W. Sr. Lowery

John W. Lowery, Sr., 91, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017. He was born in Union County, January 13, 1926 son to the late James M. and Mary May Lowery. He is also preceded in death by his wife Bette Anderson Lowery and siblings Edwin Lowery, Tom Lowery Sr, and Gladys Hinson. He was a graduate of Wingate Junior College, and Appalachian State Teachers College. John was an avid sports fan, and he was a WWII Veteran, serving in Germany earning a Purple Heart. He later retired from the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, June 19, 2017 in Wingate Baptist Church, 109 W. Elm St. Wingate NC 28174. Entombment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at10:00 AM. John is survived by a son, John (Emily) W. Lowery, Jr of Wingate, daughters, Karen ( Ronnie) Baucom of Monroe, and Vicki ( Russell) Singer of Harrisburg, five grandchildren, Bobby Myers, Jennifer St. Clair, Katelyn Baucom, Joshua Lowery, and Nathan Singer and 12 great grandchildren.
